TELL HIM YOU YOUR JOYS, THAT HE MAY SOBER THEM;

TELL HIM YOUR LONGINGS, THAT HE MAY PURIFY THEM;

TELL HIM YOUR DISLIKES, THAT HE MAY HELP YOU CONQUER THEM;

TALK TO HIM OF YOUR TEMPTATIONS, THAT HE MAY SHIELD YOU FROM THEM;

SHOW HIM THE WOUNDS OF YOUR HEART, THAT HE MAY HEAL THEM;

LAY BARE YOUR INDIFFERENCE TO GOOD,
YOUR DEPRAVED TASTES FOR EVIL,

IF YOU WILL POUR OUT ALL YOUR WEAKNESSES, NEEDS AND TROUBLES, THERE WILL BE NO LACK OF WHAT TO SAY. YOU WILL NEVER EXHAUST THE SUJECT. PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO SECRETS FROM EACH OTHER NEVER WANT FOR SUBJECTS OF CONVERSATION. THEY DO NOT WEIGH THEIR WORDS FOR THERE IS NOTHING TO BE HELD BACK; NIETHER DO THEY SEEK FOR SOMETHING TO SAY. THEY TALK OUT OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART AND WITHOUT CONSIDERATION THEY SAY JUST WHAT THEY THINK.

Hey dad...we are reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis in our Lifegroup and as I was reading for this week I thought of you and decided to share this little excerpt from the book...

Screwtape's letter to Wormwood his Nephew:

Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do as our Enemy's will (God being the enemy), looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.

But of course the troughs (being the dull or dry times of our spiritual walk...the deserts) afford opportunities to our side also. Next week I will give you some hints on how to exploit them,
